History

By the end of Year 6, we want children at Oughtibridge Primary school to be able to understand the concepts below and to be able to answer these key questions about them.
Chronology – When did events happen in relation to each other?
Similarities and Differences – How can we analyse how the experiences that difference groups of people have been the same or different over time?
Enquiry and Interpretation – How can we ask questions about the past and make sure we have reliable sources to help us answer them?
Cause and Consequence – What are the relationships between events and what effect did they have on life at the time and beyond?
Significance – How have historical figures and events led to changes in society and what was their lasting impact?
All children are fostered as historians and gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of the past in Britain and the wider world.
Through the teaching of history, we aim to create enthusiastic and inquisitive historians who can apply their knowledge and understanding of the past to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.
‘Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.’ Albert Einstein
