Science

By the end of Year 6, we want children at Oughtibridge Primary school to be able to understand the concepts below and to be able to answer these key questions about them.
Change – Why do some things transform from one state to another?
Classification – How does similarity and difference add to our understanding?
Electricity – Where does the energy come from and what happens when it flows?
Earth and Space – How does the movement of the planets and the sun affect our lives?
Forces – What is a force and how does it affect the world around us?
Light – How do we see things?
Living Things – What does it mean to be alive?
Materials – What are things made from and why?
Rocks – Why aren’t all rocks the same?
Sound – How do we hear things?
By developing scientific thinking, we aim to help children be informed about and understand the world around them.
Teaching science involves the encouragement, promotion and development of children’s interest and knowledge of materials, objects and phenomena which surround them at home, at school and everywhere else through a whole-curriculum approach. We teach methods of enquiry and investigation to stimulate creativity while developing a love of learning through awe and wonder.
